King Cole Jumbo Toastie is a super-chunky polyester yarn that knits up quickly on big needles. Each ball is a generous 400g and holds 120m, so a blanket or a warm jumper takes far fewer balls than you might expect. It is 100% polyester, which makes it straightforward to look after and gives it a soft, brushed handle.

The recommended needle size is 10mm, working to a tension of 8 rows and 6 stitches over 10x10cm. That open gauge suits blankets and throws, cushion covers, cowls, hats and simple oversized cardigans, and it is kind on the hands for anyone who finds finer yarns tiring. Beginners often get on well with it, as the stitches are large and easy to read.
