King Cole Animal Kingdom is a self-patterning range from King Cole, and it does exactly what the name suggests: the colours change as you work, so the animal markings appear without you having to join in a second shade or follow a colourwork chart. It is the sort of yarn that keeps a plain stocking stitch project interesting from cast on to cast off.

There are six shades in the range — Crocodile, Giraffe and Jaguar among them — so there is plenty of scope for making a set, whether that is for children, for gifts, or simply to see how each one knits up.
